Brett Wiley

Brett’s life work is building more resilient organizations and communities, whether that’s through the mitigation & adaptation to climate change or expanding access to a more inclusive commons. An inspiration for that work resides in his connection to natural spaces. That connection started as a kid on family road trips, extended to becoming an Eagle Scout, and currently resides in both brief & extensive outdoor adventures.

He brings a decade of experience to his current role as Customer Programs Manager at MCE, a community-owned energy provider serving 34 communities in the Bay Area. Prior to graduate school, he managed energy efficiency, electricity purchasing, and solar installation programs for 5 years at Groundswell, a non-profit that leverages a community’s shared purchasing power to create access and change policy in the clean energy economy for producers, consumers, and workers. In that role, he was a creative fund developer across family foundations, pay for performance contracts, and government grants. Brett’s other professional experience is rooted in experiential education (Truman State University, Student Conservation Association), community organizing (Sierra Club, Renew Missouri, political campaigns), and policy planning (The White House Council on Environmental Quality, National Park Service). Brett received his B.S. in Biology from Truman State University, his MPA in Energy & Sustainable Development from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA), and his Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship in a joint program from SPEA and Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
