Alexis Puerto-Holmes

Alexis is a Latina, Indigenous, and queer woman from Oakland, California. She has worked in the outdoor field for the last 5 years and has a special interest in creating equity within outdoor spaces. When not working you can find her making art, hiking, or spending time with her dogs.

I am a native of the Bay Area, born and raised in East Palo Alto. I am a first-generation college student with a B.A. in Chicana/o Studies from UC Berkeley. My love for the outdoors began with the many trips I took with my apá to Mexico growing up. It was through these experiences that helped me to realize that tree canopy can serve as a catalyst for conversations about the inequalities and disparities that continue to exist in the bay area. As the Youth Programs Coordinator at Canopy, my ultimate goal is to include the Latinx community’s voices in the discussion of environmental justice and develop a cultural curriculum that centers on intersectionality, story-telling, and social justice.
