Sam identifies as a proud, grateful member of queer community in San Francisco and uses he/him pronouns.

From a very young age, Sam began to have a deep appreciation for the natural world through cooking, gardening, and hiking. Raised by two chefs on Potawatomi land in Wisconsin who enjoyed road trips and backpacking, some of Sam’s most formative childhood memories are outdoors or in the kitchen. Sam’s well-being feels intertwined with immersing himself in the natural world and embracing the interconnectedness of everything. And yet, as he engages in continuous unlearning and explores his relationship to land and systems, he feels a deep commitment to contribute to our collective healing in many forms.

Today, Sam finds truth and joy by spending his time cooking, running, strength training, practicing Vipassana meditation, exploring music and queer nightlife, and nurturing relationships with friends and family.

Sam earned his BS in Medical Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 2011 before serving as a Teach for America Corps Member from 2011-2013. Currently, Sam is earning his Masters in Counseling Psychology from CIIS and works as a Head of People at a technology startup in San Francisco.

Sam lives in the Lower Haight neighborhood of San Francisco with his dog Cash.
