Anais Sobczak

2018 OEI Participant

As a Polish scout, Anais spent quite a few weekends outdoors, camping and learning about simple outdoor survival skills. She learned to appreciate the environment and all it has to offer everyone. While attending San Francisco State University, Anais took an outdoor recreation course that taught her about the hardships low-income and youth of color face getting outdoors. Reflecting on the fun she has had in the outdoors, the happiness she feels in the air, and the strength she builds while challenging herself on trails, Anais felt everyone should share these experiences. Working at Bay Area Wilderness Training, she had the opportunity to meet outdoor educators and hear about their experiences getting low-income and youth of color outdoors. After hearing about all the great experiences outdoor leaders and youth were having, Anais realized she wants to gain the outdoor skills necessary to work with an organization that takes youth outdoors and works with these youth on a personal level. Through word of mouth, Anais learned about the Outdoor Educators Institute and the amazing work they do. She is excited to be part of the 2018 cohort and is ready to learn!
