Lydia Nichols-Russell

2018 OEI Participant

Lydia-Nichols-Russell

Lydia grew up on the east coast, with the Appalachian Mountains on one side and the Chesapeake Bay on the other. She was lucky enough to gain exposure to the outdoors from a young age, fostering a connection to nature that she hopes to continue to build and share with the youth she leads. She is a recent graduate from the University of Maryland, with degrees in Environmental Science and French, and is currently working with the Youth Stewardship Program of San Francisco Recreation and Parks as an environmental educator for kids in elementary through high school.

Through the Outdoor Educators Institute, Lydia is excited to learn how to better facilitate discussions of social and environmental justice with young (and other-aged) folks, as well as developing technical skills for trip planning and outdoor adventuring with youth groups.
