San Francisco / Oakland cohort
Celine Barrera (she/they) is a senior at Mills College in Oakland, California but has lived the majority of her life in her hometown of San Antonio, Texas. They are on their way to earning a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science with a minor in Creative Writing. One of her favorite memories at Mills College so far is spending a summer conducting geochemical research on the small lake on campus, Lake Aliso. Currently, they are the president of Latinx Student Collective, a club on campus that establishes an inclusive space for Latinx-identified students to share a space in solidarity and celebrate their culture. Celine hopes to bridge her passion for the environment and social justice into a career centered in environmental justice. When they are not devoting time to their studies, they are spending time with loved ones (including cats), seeking events and spaces that embrace their queer identity, and digitally collaging.
