Program Assistant – San Francisco / Oakland cohort

Rachael-Meyers

Rachael Meyers is a Mixed Black youth worker and outdoor educator in Oakland. Originally hailing from the Northeast where she got her bachelor’s degree in Literature and Black Studies from Bennington College, she now calls Oakland home. As well as being a Program Assistant for the Outdoor Educators Institute’s 2019 cohort, she works full time at North Oakland Community Charter School as an Assistant Teacher, and part time for Brown Girl Surf as the Onsite Logistics Manager. She has worked seasonally with youth organizations such as Project Avery, Taylored Fit Solutions, and Camp Ubuntu. Rachael has been working with young people in the outdoors for over ten years, and strives to develop a more inclusive culture of healing and community in nature for Black and Brown youth. She especially loves driving for hours to isolated campgrounds by lakes and rivers, outdoor rock climbing, whitewater canoeing, and walking around ancient cemeteries.
