Katherine Galeas Veliz

San Francisco / Oakland cohort

Hello!! My name is Katherine Daniela Galeas Veliz. I am a Salvadorian American born and raised in the beautiful city of San Francisco.I grew up in the Ingleside and Mission district of San Francisco. Visiting the beach and watching ocean documentaries as a kid, led me to an interest in Marine Science. I love the ocean with a passion and often joke that it is my first love. I feel at peace when I see the Ocean. In college, I found another passion: teaching! Seeing my student’s faces light up when they learn something new or find out cool facts about the world, inspired me to continue educating others about the importance of protecting our planet. In 2019, I graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Science and a Minor in education. I was the first in my family to graduate from college and I can’t wait to be the first in my family to get a Master’s or PhD. Degree! Right now, I am teaching people about the environment and the natural world as an Environmental Educator at the EcoCenter in Heron’s Head Park in the Bayview/Hunter’s Point neighborhood. I am dedicating my time to teaching and learning more about the community I serve and how we can continue to work together to help our planet and each other! In my spare time, I like to collect sea shells, watch anime/ animated shows, draw, play Minecraft and crochet. My favorite sea creatures are cuttlefish and squids!!
