Rising Leaders Fellowship 2025: Timeline and Overview

February - May: Capacity Building Sessions
Participants will engage in various topics and attend training sessions to support the development of an organizational or community based impact project.

June - August: Asynchronous Impact Project Development
During this time, participants will have the flexibility to work on their impact projects. They'll apply insights gained from earlier sessions while accessing ongoing support and resources such as peer collaboration, coaching, and office hours with Justice Outside staff.

September: Culmination + Celebration
The Fellowship will culminate with participant-led presentations showcasing their impact projects and highlighting the importance of increased racial equity, justice, and cultural relevance within the outdoor and environmental field.
Program at a Glance
February-September 2025
Capacity Building Sessions:
Sessions between February through May consist of capacity-building workshops, coaching, and community building. These sessions will focus on personal, professional and organizational development. Topics may include:

Critical Reflection and Navigating Conflict:
How to use critical reflection to analyze identity, positionality, and shame to navigate conflict.

Introduction to White Supremacy Culture:
Define aspects of WSC culture, and identify how it shows up in your organization.

Equitable Community Engagement:
Explore frameworks for intentional outreach and engaging communities from a racial equity lens.

Intentional Curriculum Development:
Analyze curriculum for implicit bias and explore avenues to incorporate community voice in curriculum and programs.

Fund Development:
Examine how community narratives are communicated; explore how deficit-minded fundraising can harm communities.

Program Evaluation:
Explore the concept of evaluation and provide hands-on opportunities to develop our evaluation skills and approaches.

Liberated Work Spaces:
Explore the concept of utilizing liberated principles to shape the workplace and outdoor and environmental industry.

Impact Projects:
Fellows will be asked to identify opportunities for increased cultural relevance within their organization (or, if not with an org, another initiative) and develop a plan of action that addresses one or more identified opportunities. Inside smaller groups, fellows will serve as peer coaches to one another through this process and will present on their efforts and findings at the culminating session.

Individual Coaching:
Each participant will have the opportunity to receive individual coaching. The purpose of coaching is to explore areas of personal and/or professional development in a supportive environment.
