Jonatan Salinas was born in a small mining town, Zimapán, in the state of Hidalgo, and immigrated with his family to Austin, Texas, in the late 1990s. As Austin developed, he began to notice the effect on natural spaces, which caused him to become curious about the impact of urbanization on native fauna and flora which led him to get a Biology Degree at St.Edward’s University. During his undergrad experience, he also learned about social justice issues through volunteering around Austin. His passion for volunteering allowed him to intern at the Golden Gate Parks Conservancy, which taught and fell in love with helping others create personal connections with nature. He is still growing, learning, and teaching others back in ATX.
