
Xochyl Perez (She/her/ella) is a master’s student at the University of Michigan, researching non-crop plant competitive interactions in Chiapas, Mexico’s coffee agroecosystems. She focuses Indigenous and rural farmers’ perspectives and traditional practices to promote resilient food systems, biodiversity, and food sovereignty. With a background in environmental education and advocacy in Chicago’s BIPOC communities, Xochyl brings a commitment to accessible and culturally relevant learning. Outside of her studies, she enjoys being outdoors and biking, hiking, listening to the sounds of nature on a walk or simply reading under her favorite tree.
