Past Grantee Partners

Justice Outside has been granting funds to California-based youth-serving environmental organizations since 2010. Our work has touched the lives of over 300,000 youth since then.

At Justice Outside, we believe a meaningful experience in nature can change the course of a life. We lead the field by providing grantmaking, capacity-building, and training to outdoor professionals and thought-leaders. In doing so, we strive to ensure that as many youth as possible can partake in the life-changing experience of the outdoors. Justice Outside remains committed to cultural relevancy in the outdoor field, to improving outcomes in health, and to increasing environmental stewardship by youth served in outdoor programs. Our grantmaking program can be a wonderful opportunity to support your organization’s capacity for sustainable programming while enhancing leadership opportunities for the underrepresented youth in your programs.

Who are underrepresented youth?

Justice Outside strives to serve youth who are underrepresented in the outdoor and environmental fields. Underrepresented youth are those who have traditionally not seen their identities reflected in outdoor spaces, green jobs, and the environmental movement as a whole. We advocate for the inclusion and representation of diverse communities, especially those who have had historical and systemic barriers to accessing the outdoors.

What is cultural relevancy?

Justice Outside defines cultural relevancy as the ability to effectively reach and engage communities and their youth in a manner consistent with the cultural context and values of that community, while effectively addressing disparities of equity and inclusion within an organization’s entire structure. Cultural relevancy is a central underpinning of Justice Outside’s grantmaking and strategic programs.
