Kayri Garcia (she/her) was born and raised in the Central Valley. She is from the small town of Newman, CA. She is a recent first-generation graduate from the University of California-Merced where she earned a B.A. with honors in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies.
During her time in undergrad, Kayri published community-participatory research on Latino men’s mental health in the UCM Undergraduate Research Journal, became Central Valley Scholar’s Community Health Scholar of 2021, and was awarded Most Outstanding Senior Capstone Project by her department chair.
Kayri is passionate about the intersection between community, knowledge, and social justice. She looks forward to participating in OEI to further her knowledge of how we can make the outdoors a more enjoyable and inclusive experience for everyone by applying what she has already learned.
Her favorite pastimes are finding new gardens and beaches to visit, watching the sunset, and spending time with her loved ones.
