OEI: Seattle 2023 Program Lead

My name is Rebeca (she/her) but it preferer to be called Beca. I am an Indigenous woman from Mexico, more specifically I belong to the Hñañu people of the states now known as Querétaro and Hidalgo. I am a migrant and because of these I try to have a global perspective when doing advocacy work, when working on self education on social justice, US extractivism, climate change and many other topics. I have a background in early childhood education, I love teaching and working with the youth. As someone that grew up with a strong connection with the land through growing our foods, foraging, walking on the lands my family and I are Indigenous from, I feel very passionate about creating safe spaces for melanated folks to recreate outside and connect with the land just like our ancestors did. I am a long distance runner, a biker, a climber and avid hiker. I ground myself by creating space both for solitude and space to be with community outside.
