Katherine Orellana Iraheta

South Bay cohort

Hello! My name is Katherine Orellana Iraheta (they/them), I’m nineteen years old, and I’m from Sunnyvale, CA. I am a first generation Salvadoran-American and my hobbies include playing music on my cello and spending time with my pet tortoise, Larry. I have a strong passion for traveling and the environment and preserving it for future generations. After high school, I took a gap year in Ecuador for seven months where I lived with an indigenous host family and had an apprenticeship at a school where I worked in their agricultural department as well as helped out in their math and literature classes. Through this gap year, I discovered my love for learning about different ecosystems and biomes as well as passing on the knowledge I learned to others. Through this internship, I wish to continue learning about the outdoors and to connect with others who have similar passions as I do.
